The North American Association for Environmental
Education offers these guidelines to help educators choose
environmental education materials.
Criteria for Evaluating Environmental Education Materials:
(EE Materials: Guidelines For Excellence, NAAEE)

accurate in describing environmental problems, issues,
and conditions, and in reflecting the diversity of perspectives
on them.
- Depth: EE materials should foster awareness of the

concepts, conditions, and issues, and an awareness of
the feelings, values, attitudes, and perceptions at the
heart of environmental issues, as appropriate fro different
developmental levels.
- Emphasis on skills building: EE materials should build
lifelong skills that enable learners to prevent and address
environmental issues.
- Action Orientation: EE materials should promote civic
responsibility, encouraging learners to use their knowledge,
personal skills, and assessments of environmental issues
as a basis for environmental problem solving and action.
- Instructional soundness: EE materials should rely on
instructional techniques that create an effective learning
environment.
- Usability: EE materials should be well designed and
easy to use.
Several states and national organizations have databases
of environmental education resources:
California CREEC: http://www.creec.org
EE Link: http://www.eelink.net
Since 1994, EE-Link has been a leading force in bringing
environmental education to the Internet. Now, with over
10,000 users per week on average, EE-Link has become a comprehensive
website for exploring environmental education on the Internet.
EE-Link is a participant in the Environmental Education
and Training Partnership (EETAP) of the North American Association
for Environmental Education (NAAEE).
