Second Nature is an educational nonprofit that works with
colleges and universities to incorporate sustainability
concepts into campus life, including: teaching, learning,
research, interaction with the community and campus operations.
Second Nature supports networking among stakeholder groups
by designing interactive workshops, facilitating intra-
and inter-institutional collaborations, gathering and disseminating
'best practices' resources, providing institutional consulting,
and promoting the vision of Education for Sustainability.
Second Nature recognizes the need for a focused outlet
and serves as a thought leader in the area of sustainability
by providing the opportunity for individuals and institutions
to take part in stimulating dialogues and information exchange.
We draw on institutionally tested and accepted formats for
engagement that are designed to deepen the conversations
around navigating the rapid changes taking place in society
and the challenges we face in the twenty-first century.
Our organization serves as an information clearinghouse
and a connector. We reach into the future to give today's
students the knowledge, skills and values they will need,
as tomorrow's leaders and consumers, to address the complex
environmental, social and economic issues facing society.
We believe that higher education institutions must leverage
their resources more rapidly to help society shift toward
a just and sustainable future. Major changes in the content
and process of higher education are necessary for this shift
to occur. All stakeholders --administrators, faculty, staff,
students, alumni, business, government, nonprofit organizations,
community members and education experts -- must collaborate
to lead the effort.
